Shri Vidyapoorna Teertharu Aradhana (Sri Vyasaraja Matha)

Shri Vidyapoorna Teertharu was the 30th Pontiff of Shri Vyasaraja Math. He attained Hari Pada in 1872. His Moola Brindavan is located in Sosale.

The Great Pontiff Sri Vidyapoorna tirtharu adorned the Vedaanta samrajya peeta for 48 Years. He had poorna anugraha of his guru Sri Vidyanidhi tirtha sripadaru & divine blessing of Sri Moola Gopalakrishna devaru. His holiness’ Jnaana, thapashakti commanded respect & devotion from all. His holiness travelled all over South India with all Royalty, Grandeur & Protection given with devotion by kings across South-India & requested H.H to be their Rajaguru.

One such example of 1859 Sanchara of Srigalu from Sosale to Tirupati, Rameshwaram & other places across Mysore state is given in the picture with details of Srigala parivAra detailed clearly in the document from the Commissioners’ Office, Mysore state.

Srigala parivaara had 100 Brahmins, 150 sevakAs, 3 elephants, 8 camels, 25 Horses, 80 bullocks, 10 carts, 3 Mene, 1 Pallakki (palanquin for srigalu), 12 muskets (armed soldiers-gunmen), 12 swordsmen, Royal Green Umbrella (given by Delhi sultan to Sri Vyasarajaru and  requested shri vyAsarAjaru to carry as Royal symbol & respect to Sri matha), Hagalu deevatige (A Pair of Torch to be held in front of Srimatha peetadhipati in honor during day & night), Nagaari on camels (announcing instruments) & Royal Insignia! It also orders the various administrative heads to allow the ParivAra to freely pass through & even pay for the articles needed throughout the sanchara. Such was King Mummadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar’s Gurubhakthi & devotion towards Sri Vyasaraja samsthAna.

His gurugaLu, shri vidyAnidhi tIrtharu was on the pITA for only 48 days which was preordained and Swamiji knew about it. So he blessed vidyApUrNa tIrtharu to have a long reign on the madhva sAmrAjya pITa. Shri vidyApUrNa tIrtharu was on the pITA for 48 long years.

He was succeeded by vidyAsindhu tIrtharu, whose tenure saw one of the most difficult famines in the Mysore region. Shri VidyAsindhu tIrtharu sold 1000kg gold of the maTa to buy rice and grains from neighbouring kerala and distributed it to the common people. He is lovingly called as "akki bELe swAmigaLu". The fact that there would be a SINDHU that would sell the gold and take care of people was forecasted by shri vidyAvallabha tIrtharu, about 70 years and 4 generations before vidyAsindhu tIrtharu. That was the greatness of the yatIs.

Shri vidyApUrNa tIrtharu also gave Ashrama to subbarAya dAsaru of Mysore and named him gOpAla woDeyaru. He was a close friend of Mysore maharaja, shri mummaDi krishnarAja woDeyaru and got vairAgya and sought sanyAsatva from vidyApUrNa tIrtharu.
