Shri Vidyakanta Teertharu was the 28th Pontiff of Shri Vyasaraja Math. He attained Hari Pada in 1824. His Moola Brindavan is located in Sosale.

He was a great scholar and his shishyaru describes him as being proficient in all 64 vidyas (Arts). Once he was sent on a Sanchara by his guru and they both met later in Nava Brindavan, where Shri Vidyakantha Teertharu presented 20 Jaya Patrikas (Recognition of Victory) to his Guru which he won in various debates during his Sanchara.
His Guru was Shri Vidyavallabha Teertharu and his Shishya was Shri Vidyanidhi Teertharu. Shri VidyaVallabha Teertharu, is referred to as Abhinava Vyasarajaru and Shri Vidyakantha Teertharu is referred to as Abhinava Vijayeendraru.
He was honored by Kings of Mysore, Travancore, Cochi and Pudukottai. The King of Mysore gifted him few villages. During his period, a "Vyjayantimala" jewel was offered to the Matha's main deity Moola Gopalakrishna.
Once Shri Vidyavallabha Teertharu and Shri Vidyakantha Teertharu did Chaturmas at Shrirangapatna along with Shri Sujaneendra Teertharu of Shri Raghavendra Swamy Math. Everyday Shri Vidyavallabha Teertharu used to do Pravachana (Discourse) on TATPARYA CHANDRIKA in the Morning, Sri Sujaneendra Teertharu on NYAYAMRUTA in the afternoon and Shri Vidyakantha Teertharu on TARKA TANDAVA in the evening.
Shri Vidyakantha Teertharu had written commentary on TARKA TANDAVA. He has also composed many Devarnamas in Kannada. He has written "Mangala Mangalashtakam" and also "Raghunathashatakam" on Shri Sheshachandrikacharyaru.
He was the first to enter Brindavana at Sosale and 7 other yatIs have since entered there with the last being shri Vidyaprasanna Teertharu in 1969.
