Shri Swarnavarna Teertharu was the Guru of Shri Sripadarajaru. His Aradhana falls on Jyesta - Krishna - Chaturthi. His Guru was Shri Satyavara Teertharu. His Brindavan is located in Srirangam.
He was regularly doing Srihari Chintane and was busy with japa tapa. As a result, his body was shining like gold. That is why he was called as "swarNavarNa tIrtharu".
Once he went to see shri Purushottama Tirtharu, the mathadipathi of vyAsarAja maTa, at abbUru. On his way, he saw an 8 year old boy who was grazing the cows. swarNavarNa tIrtharu asked the boy as to “How long is abbUru?”. The boy replied “See the western side, see the Sun, see us, the cows are returning home. You can calculate how long it is”. Even though boy didn’t tell the exact distance to abbUru, the way the boy answered impressed the swamiji. The reply was an indication that abbUr was not far way.
Shri swarNavarNa tIrtharu was very much attracted by the boy's talent. He narrated this to shri purushOtama tIrtharu and expressed the eagerness to have such a talented person as his disciple. Then he requested the boy's parents to send the boy with him. But the boy's parents hesitated.
Then with shri purushOthama tIrtharu's intervention, the boy's parents agreed to send the boy with shri swarNavarNa tIrtharu. Shri swarNavarNa tIrtharu along with the boy came back to Sri Rangam. In 1412 he arranged for the boy's Bramhopadesham, gave him sanyAsa and named him as Sri Lakshmi Narayana Muni.
Later Sri Lakshmi Narayana was sent to Sri Vibhudhendra tIrtharu for education. Sri Lakshmi Narayana Muni stayed with him for eight years and became a learned man. He returned to Sri Rangam after his education.
In 1420 Sri Swarnavarna tIrtha made Sri Lakshmi Narayana Muni as his successor and entered the Brindavana in Sri Rangam.
