Shri Sode Vadiraja Math

Shri Sode Vadiraja Matha was originally known as Kumbhasi Matha.  It was the 6th Matha among the Asta Mathas established by Shriman Madhwacharyaru in a village called Kumbashi near Shivamogha.

Shriman Madhwacharyaru initiated Shri Vishnu Teertharu, to be the first Peetadipathi of Kumbhasi Matha.  Shri Vishnu Teerthara was the younger brother of Shriman Madhwacharyaru in Poorvashrama.  It is widely believed that he is still alive and performing tapasya at the Mumaradri hills near Kukke Subrahmanya.  Later on, Shri Vishnu Teertharu also established the Kukke Subrahmanya Matha.

When Shri Vadiraja Teertharu was the Pontiff of Kumbhasi Matha, Arasappa Nayaka of Sode honoured Shri Vadiraja Swamiji by gifting land at Sode. Shri Vadiraja Swamiji constructed a big Matha there and then onwards it became famous as Sode Mutt. Since it was established by Shri Vadiraja Teertharu, it became popular as Shri Sode Vadiraja Matha and is called the same till date.

The Sode Matha is located at the southern side of Car Street and left side of Shri Krishna Temple.
