Sthala Purana
Karjan preserves a living Himalayan tradition of Narsingh Bhagwan as a powerful Vaishnava Devata. An older temple is traditionally remembered at the site, while the present structure continues the worship and festival life of the deity.
Narasimha worship here is integrated into the distinctive Devata culture of the Kullu valley, giving the shrine a character quite different from the Agamic temple traditions of southern India.
