Sthala Purana Navadvipa Kshetra tradition says that after slaying Hiranyakashipu and blessing Prahlada, Narasimha came to this place to rest. Brahma, Shiva and other devas came to worship Him, giving the place the name Devapalli.
The Narasimha is traditionally regarded as Swayambhu. The present temple structure is later, while the sacred tradition concerns the deity and the Kshetra itself.
