Sthala Purana
The Muktinath Temple (also called Sri Mukti Narayana Kshetra) is one of the 108 Divya Desams and a sacred swayam vyakta shrine of Lord Vishnu. Local lore narrates that Lord Vishnu manifested here to grant liberation (moksha) to devotees. The temple is revered by both Hindus and Buddhists: Hindus worship Lord Vishnu as Narayana, while Buddhists revere the deity as Avalokitesvara. The sacred flame (Jwala Mai) and 108 water springs symbolize purification and liberation. Worshipping Narasimha/Narayana here is believed to free devotees from the cycle of birth and death.
