Sthala Purana
Torvi is an old Narasimha Kshetra near Vijayapura. The local sacred tradition associates the temple with Durvasa Maharishi and long-standing worship of Sri Lakshmi Narasimha. The sanctum has a distinctive cave-like or lowered setting that gives the shrine a powerful traditional character.
Torvi is also important to Karnataka's devotional and literary heritage. The area is associated with the Torave Ramayana and with Madhwa devotional traditions, giving the temple significance beyond its immediate locality.
