Sthala Purana
Shrimushnam is one of the eight swayam vyakta kshetras where Lord Vishnu manifested on his own. Here, the Lord appeared as Varaha Narasimha to protect devotees and grant moksha. The temple is praised in the Divya Prabandham and revered by Madhwa saints. The sacred tank (Nityapushkarini) is believed to wash away sins, and the temple is considered a moksha‑granting kshetra.
