Sthala Purana
Hampi's monumental Narasimha is one of the most recognisable images of the Vijayanagara capital. The great monolithic image was originally conceived as Lakshmi Narasimha, with the Goddess seated on the Lord's lap; surviving traces and historical interpretation preserve that identity even though the Lakshmi figure is no longer complete.
The monument represents the scale and artistic confidence of Vijayanagara Vaishnavism and stands today within the UNESCO World Heritage landscape of Hampi. It is one of India's most important historical visual representations of Narasimha.
