Gopi Talav / Gopichandana

Sri Vadirajaru praises Gopichandana for its sanctity and Vaishnava use. The traditional source region is Gopi Talav, geographically separate from central Dwarka, so it is retained as an independent pilgrimage stop. The reference is retained here in the sequence of Sri Vadirajaru's pilgrimage so that a pilgrim can connect the present-day sacred place with the Kshetra or Tirtha praised in the Tirtha Prabandha.

Sthala Purana: Gopi Talav is traditionally associated with Sri Krishna and the Gopis. The yellow sacred earth known as Gopichandana is especially revered by Vaishnavas for the application of urdhvapundra. The place continues to be approached as a sacred destination in its regional pilgrimage tradition. The present guide therefore focuses on the principal deity, tirtha or sacred feature that a pilgrim can identify and visit today, without treating later local traditions as though every detail were stated by Sri Vadirajaru.

Places to See in the Kshetra: Gopi Talav, the sacred Gopichandana earth and the local Sri Krishna/Gopinatha shrine.

Timings    Open throughout the day for darshan and collection of Gopichandana.
