Why should we not consume prohibited foods (Nishiddha Padarthas) as per Shastra?

Pt. Shri. Vedavyasacharya

Food / Eating

There is a pramāṇa (scriptural statement):

“Niṣiddha bhakṣaṇaṁ kṛtvā, mohāt sūkaratāṁ vrajet.”

Meaning:

If a person, out of ignorance or delusion, consumes prohibited food,

Such a person is said to be born as a pig in the next life.

Understanding the Teaching

“Nishiddha” means food that is forbidden by scriptures

These are generally known and understood in one’s tradition

Consuming such food leads to spiritual impurity and negative consequences

Guidance

Do not consume prohibited foods under any circumstances

Always prefer sattvic (pure and simple) food

Food should support purity of mind and spiritual growth
