Pt. Shri. Vedavyasacharya
Shrardh
The Nirnaya Sindhu scripture explains:
“Gaya Shraadhaat pramuchyante”
Meaning: If one performs the pind-pradhana (offering of rice balls) on Vishnu’s feet in Gaya, they receive the special blessings of Lord Janardana, the presiding deity of Gaya. Because of this blessing, the ancestors attain a good and auspicious state.
There is also a Shraadha mantra that goes:
“Shamee patra pramaanena pindam dadyat, Gaya shire uddharet, sapta gotraani kulamekottharam shatam”
Meaning: Gaya Shraadha does not only satisfy a few ancestors; even ancestors from seven gotras and 101 clans are pleased and liberated.
Therefore, scriptures give great importance to performing Shraadha in Gaya.
