General
Dharma means performing good deeds and righteous actions. The more punya (merit) we earn, the better our life becomes. Punya comes only through proper actions and correct observance of rituals, such as Sandhyavandana and other duties done in the right way.
In life, we face many difficulties. These difficulties arise mainly due to the lack of punya. When we have punya, it protects us. That is why we often hear that because of good deeds done in past lives, a person enjoys comfort and happiness in this life.
Therefore, we should perform karma and dharma and offer all actions to God. As the saying goes, “Dharmo rakshati rakshitah”—Dharma protects the one who protects Dharma.
Wherever we are and whatever problems we face, our punya will protect us. Hence, we must continuously follow dharma, rituals, and righteous conduct throughout our life.
