Dharma is of many kinds.
Ishta Dharma:
This is what a person does by personal choice or vow.
For example, deciding to serve at a holy place, doing pradakshina to a deity, or giving charity to Brahmins. These acts are not strictly fixed by rules and are done based on one’s wish and devotion.
Poorna Dharma:
This refers to practices clearly mentioned in the scriptures, supported by authority, and followed by elders for generations. Observing such Dharma gives greater spiritual benefit.
In short, Ishta Dharma is based on personal intention, while Poorna Dharma is fully scripture-based and tradition-driven.
